To Shop For Fish By Anne DeMarco

FAIR HAVEN - “I've had some crazy rides home. You can be out there on flat water, and within 10 minutes, we've been in five footers,” explained Fantasy Charters boat captain Clyde Keck.

And frankly, that's what Keck loves about his job.

Others, he has found, seem to envy his career.

“Everybody says that they think it's so easy. Guys, I work harder than I ever did when I was a fireman,” said the captain, who for 23 years now has brought clients out to the deeps of Lake Ontario to shop for fish: the old fashioned way. “There's something about being on the water in the sun all day that tires you out.”

On an average day, he leaves his home in Fair Haven at 5 a.m., then gets the equipment ready. After a day on the water, he cleans the catch, then the boat. Common repairs to the boat include replacing frayed downrigger cables and engine maintenance. He usually returns home around 4:30 p.m., if he's lucky. Then there are phone messages to contend with and paperwork until 8 p.m.

Trophy Trout and Salmon Will Highlight 2003 Fishing Season for Oswego County
By Ernie Lantiegne

The success of new tributary regulations could mean improved lake fishing for bigger brown trout in Lake Ontario waters of Oswego County in 2003. Combine that with the third strongest year-class of 20- to 30-lb. three-year-old Chinook salmon since 1998, and anglers will have a hot time in eastern Lake Ontario this year.

Lake Ontario, year after year, provides some of the finest, most accessible freshwater sport fishing in North America. The 14th largest freshwater lake in the world, this huge water is renown for its fantastic fishing for trophy trout, salmon, walleyes and smallmouth bass. Public fishing access is excellent. Along New York's 200-plus miles of shoreline, anglers enjoy a wealth of top quality fishing services like marinas, charter boats, restaurants, tackle shops, and more.
Note: Nice Article By Ernie Lantiegne about the 2003 fishing season on Oswego Counties Lake Ontario.

A LAKE ONTARIO FISHING RING

After searching the web and wandering about on different Web Rings available I was disappointed that no one had a specific ring for fishing Lake Ontario. So I have decided to try and start a new ring dedicated to fishing Lake Ontario. Since my time available for webdesign is limited I have decided to merge A LAKE ONTARIO FISHING RING with the Action Salmon portal.
Note: The Lake Ontario Fishing Ring is now located on the Action Salmon Web Portal.

Have you ever thought about fishing Lake Ontario to catch a trophy Chinook salmon that could weigh 30 lbs. or more? This is the year to do it. According to state fishery biologists, an all-time record number of 3-year-old Chinooks from 20 to 30 lbs. and larger waits for anglers in 2002. This abundance of huge Chinooks should produce some of the hottest salmon fishing ever.

Fair Haven, NY - The article "Bronzebacks Booming in part of Lake Ontario" can be found in the June issue of Field & Stream. The article talks about the great smallmouth bass fishery in south-central Lake Ontario between Irondequoit Bay and Oswego. Fair Haven, NY is located right in the center of this fishery talked about in Field & Stream article.

IN NEW YORK: BRONZEBACKS BOOMING IN PART OF LAKE ONTARIO

Sodus Point, NY – While cormorants have taken a big bite out of the smallmouth bass population in eastern Lake Ontario, the smallmouth fishery along the lake’s south-central shore is enjoying the best of times.

The word is out, Lake Ontario trout and salmon fishing is going crazy! Record catches of trophy fish are happening every day. And the best news is that YOU can get in on the action, with a phone call to Fantasy Charters. Our reasonable rates and Lake Ontario accessibility add up to one affordable fishing dream.

We are centrally located between Rochester and the Salmon River. This location gives us the advantage of being close to the best fishing all season long.

The fishing begins after the ice melts off the rivers and bays of Lake Ontario. The many tributaries in our area warm the water close to shore luring the fish in. Spring fishing is close to the shore to take advantage of this situation. We even use planner boards to help bring the lures closer to the tributaries. This time of year gives you the chance to catch a variety of fish.

Our brown trout fishing is second to none!
Note: *July and August are a great time to be on the lake, with great fishing and nice weather. The salmon run begins in July.
